The Runway Diva

Got a chance to do an interview with Ms. Debbie a high fashion model from Kenya.
Her Fierceness on the runway reminds me of the likes of Ajuma  Nasenyana who also happens to inspire her.

1.Full Names
Deborah Aluoch Oyugi

2 .When and how did you start Modelling?
Late 2008

3. Who is your fashion inspiration?

Locally am inspired by designer John Kaveke…. I seem to have a penchant for black models so I can say Ajuma Nasenyana inspires me as well as my mentor Aqua Bonsu

4. If you could meet one person from the fashion industry/ a fashion icon who would it be?
It would have been the late Alexander Mcqueen, God rest his soul. I was totally fascinated by his pieces. At the moment it would be Mario Epanya, the photographer who was campaigning for the African vogue

5. Which is the most memorable fashion show you ever participated in?

All of my favourites happen to be in Nairobi. First was John Kaveke’s Reincarnation show that was at the National Museum. It launched me into the industry and his pieces are always exquisite. The other was THE AFRICAN FASHION FAIR 2010 where I met designer Daddy Maximo from Rwanda, Ally Rehimtullah from Tanzania, Besam from Burkina Faso and was the show stopper for Ali Dio from Cameroun. To me, a show is memorable because of the satisfaction and growth I gain from it.

6. How would you describe your style?
I am African..anything that spells out my ethnicity catches my eyes. Three quarters of my wardrobe is cotemporary and urbarn African wear. Trust me,I never go wrong with it. I’ve got something for every occasion

7. What is one thing you always carry in your bag?
A pair of heels, lip gloss, foundation, camera, stunners and a bottle of water

8. What advice would you give new models?

Do not stoop low because you want to make it, up your game, work hard and remain faithful to your dream. Passion should be your driving force. A good thing will always sell so try and be the best. Above all, trust in God.

We wish you all the best Debbie.
Much love
